KNCCO surveyed dining out expenses and haircut and beauty care service prices in October and announced the survey results

 

 

The Korean National Council of Consumer Organizations (KNCCO) (President Kim Jae-ok) released the price survey results of dining out expenses and haircut and beauty care services in major commercial districts nationwide for three months in August, September, and October, so that consumers can cope with high prices through their rational choices of haircuts and beauty care services.  

 

This survey was carried out by 200 surveyors of 10 member organizations of KNCCO (Consumers Korea, The Green Consumer Network, The Korea Federation of Housewives Clubs, The National Council of Homemakers' Classes, The Korea Housewives Association HQ, The Korea Consumer Affairs Institute, The Korea Consumers Education Institute, Consumers Union of Korea, The Korea National YMCA Federation, and The National YWCA of Korea) targeting 8 items, Seolleongtang, Kimchi stew, Jajang noodles, cold noodles, Kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), Samgyeopsal. All of which are sold by a total of 2,556 businesses (1,917 restaurants and 639 barbershops and beauty salons) in 40 major commercial districts in 21 cities nationwide.

 

 

The dining out expenses were the most expensive in Goyang Gyeonggi-do, and were the cheapest in Buk-gu Busan 

 

As a result of the price surveys, the average dining out expenses for three months were the most expensive in Goyang Gyeonggi-do, and were the cheapest in Buk-gu, Busan. By item, Seolleongtang was the most expensive in Jeonnam Mokpo (KRW 9,625), Kimchi stew Jongro Seoul (KRW 6,688), and Jajang noodles in Haewoondae-gu Busan (KRW 6,084). Also, cold noodles were the most expensive in Sincheon Seoul (KRW 6,514), Kalguksu in Goyang Gyeonggi-do (KRW 6,648), and Samgyeopsal in Myeong-dong Seoul (KRW 13,181). 

 

Meanwhile, the cheapest areas for dining out expenses on average were Seongnam Gyeonggi-do (KRW (5,785) for Seolleongtang, Gumi Gyeongbuk  (KRW 2,938) for Jajang noodles, Ansan Gyeonggi-do (KRW 4,667) for cold noodles, Suyeong-gu Busan (KRW 3,375) for Kalguksu, and Buk-gu Busan (KRW 6,464) for Samgyeopsal.   

 

 

The prices of haircuts and beauty care services were the highest in Shincheon and Myeong-dong of Seoul and were the lowest in Suyeong-gu of Busan

 

 

Looking into the items of haircuts and beauty care services, men's hair dye was the most expensive in Shinchon Seoul (KRW 53,228); men's haircuts and women's hairdressing in Myeong-dong Seoul (KRW 18,611 and KRW 20,700, respectively); women's hair dye, general perms, and set perms in Sincheon Seoul (KRW 67,750, KRW 63,875, KRW 99,000, respectively). Therefore, the prices of haircuts and beauty care services in Myeong-dong and Shincheon Seoul were much higher than other areas.  

 

Meanwhile, the lowest prices for haircuts and beauty care services were found in the following areas: Men's haircut (KRW 7,058), men's hair dye (KRW 15,709), women's hairdressing (KRW 7,361), and general perms (KRW 23,009) were the cheapest in Suyeong-gu Busan, except for set perms (KRW 30,538) in Eunhaeng-dong Daejeon.

 

  

 

Prices of Kimchi stew, cold noodles and Seolleongtang rose over the three months  

 

Concerning price changes, the prices of Seolleongtang, Kimchi stew, and cold noodles went up 0.7%, 2.6%, and 10%, respectively. In terms of area, Seolleongtang rose 16.7% in Seongnam, Kimchi stew went up 21.2% in Eunhaeng-dong Daejeon, and cold noodles increased 13.1% in Sueyong-gu Busan.  

 

In terms of haircuts and beauty care services, the prices of men's haircuts, women's hairdressing, and set perms rose 0.6%, 1.0%, and 1.3%, respectively. In terms of region, the price of men's haircuts rose 20.7% in Cheonan Chungnam, the price of women's hairdressing went up 11.6% in Shinlim Seoul, and the price of set perms increased 13.6% in Jung-gu Daegu.

 

Although, the prices of Jajang noodles and Kalguksu slightly fell 0.3% and 0.9%, respectively, and the price of men's hair dye dropped a bit by 2.1%, the other items' prices almost did not change for three months.  

  

 

The business establishments offering the lowest prices nationwide: Guk Jjigaeya in Sadang Seoul for Seolleongtang, and 2,000 Jajang in Donggae-gu Busan for Jajang noodles

 

The business establishments offering the lowest prices nationwide in this survey (excluding the cases of selling or offering under special conditions or in an emergency) as of October are as follows:   

Seolleongtang (KRW 3,500) – Guk Jjigaeya in Seoul Sadang Kimchi stew (KRW 3,000) – Chuldogil Grilled Fresh Beef in Sinchon Seoul, Taesan Ttukbaegi in Busan Jin-gu  

Jajang noodles (KRW 2,000) – Bohwajang in Jongro-gu Seoul, 2,000 Jajang in Dongrae-gu Busan, Shanghai Chinese Restaurant, and Jungsung Chinese Restaurant in Gumi 

Cold noodles (KRW 3,500) – Huge Bowl Cold Noodles in Konkuk University Station Seoul, Sewonjung in Jin-gu Busan, Yeongcheon, and Kudzu Cold Noodles in Cheonan 

Kakguksu (KRW 2,500) – Seoul Kalguksu in Jin-gu Busan 

Samgyeopsal (KRW 2,500) –Korean Beef in Ansan Gyeonggi-do 

Men's hair cut (KRW 3,500) – Pagoda Barbershop and Jongmyo Barbershop in Jongro Seoul 

Men's hair dye (KRW 4,000) – Goejung Men's Cut in Jin-gu Busan   

Women's hairdressing (KRW 4,000) – Lee Ae Ja Beauty Salon in Haewoondae-gu Busan 

Women's hair dye (KRW 10,000) – Gyeong Hair Salon in Cheonan   

General perm (KRW 15,000) – Misarang Hair in Sadang Seoul, Myungshim Beauty Salon in Suyu Seoul; Princess Hairshop in Jin-gu Busan; Dahye Beauty Salon, and Dongyang Hair Salon in Suyeong-gu Busan; Lee Ae Ja Beauty Parlor in Haewoondae-gu Busan; Hair Gallery Beauty Parlor in Bupyeong/Dongam Incheon,; and Gyeong Hair Salon in Cheonan  

Setting perm (KRW 15,000) – Lee Ae Ja Beauty Parlor in Haewoondae-gu Busan 

 

KNCCO to actively cope with and continuous monitoring of unfair price hikes

 

KNCCO plans to actively cope with those business establishments that unfairly raise prices in cooperation with local governments and relevant agencies, according to the survey results. KNCCO is scheduled to encourage and support the business establishments continuously offering low prices but high quality services. For consumer price stability, KNCCO plans to continually monitor the items that can become an issue in terms of price.
