Periodic Survey of Staple Commodities:
In October, vegetable prices declined by 87%, highest across the country
- Lettuce and spinach prices declined by 1.7 and 1.9 times from the preceding month -

 The October survey revealed that staple commodity prices declined for the first time this year. Contrary to September, when vegetable prices rose sharply, this month saw a slight decline. The price of Chinese cabbage remained as high as it was in the preceding month, while the price of lettuce rose slightly. The price of Chinese cabbage will remain strong as demand increases with the winter kimchi season.

Specifically, the price of lettuce increased across the country by the greatest margin over the preceding month, while the price of spinach declined by the greatest margin. Wonju, Gangwon-do was the area where the price of lettuce increased by 68.8%, the greatest rise, from 1,825 won in September to 3,080 won in October, while Daegu was the area where the price of spinach saw the greatest drop, by 87.9%, from 3,534 won in September to 1,881won in October.

 The differences between the areas where the consumer prices are highest and the areas where the consumer prices are lowest are as follows: the price of rice in Goyang was 1.3 times higher than that in Changwon; the price of Chinese cabbage and lettuce in Jeju was 2.2 times higher than that in Jeonju and 2.3 times higher than that in Changwon, respectively; the price of spinach in Jeonju was 2.1 times higher than that in Jeju; the price of turnips in Goyang was 2.6 times higher than that in Chuncheon; the price of apples and pears in Goyang was 2.3 times higher than that in Daejeon and 1.7 times higher than that in Chuncheon, respectively; the price of Korean beef in Changwon was 1.4 times higher than that in Wonju; the price of pork in Goyang was 1.4 times higher than that in Wonju; the price of chicken in Jeju was 1.6 times higher than that in Jinju; the price of imported beef in Goyang was 1.9 times higher than that in Jeju; the price of mackerel in Jeju was 2.3 times higher than that in Jinju; the price of tofu in Cheongju was 1.2 times higher than that in Goyang; the price of dried anchovies and laver in Busan was 1.8 times higher than that in Jeonju and 1.3 times higher than that in Daejeon, respectively; the price of eggs in Seoul was 1.6 times higher than that in Jeju; the price of ramen in Ulsan and Wonju was 1.1 times higher than that in Goyang; the price of ham in Jinju was 1.1 times higher than that in Busan; the price of yogurt in Ulsan was 1.2 times higher than that in Jeonju; the price of juice in Suwon was 1.3 times higher than that in Changwon; the price of bottled water in Seoul was 1.3 times higher than that in Wonju; the price of soju in Jinju was 1.1 times higher than that in Daegu; the price of beer Seoul was 1.1 times higher than that in Goyang; the price of powdered milk in Busan was 1.4 times higher than that in Wonju; the price of Choco-Pie in Wonju was 1.1 times higher than that in Jeonju; the price of coffee in Jeonju was 1.1 times higher than that in Daegu; the price of canned tuna in Busan was 1.1 times higher than that in Chuncheon; the price of sugar in Seoul was 1.1 times higher than that in Busan; the price of flour in Suwon was 1.1 times higher than that in Jeonju; the price of sesame oil in Gwangju was 1.1 times higher than that in Chuncheon; the price of corn oil in Jeju was 1.2 times higher than that in Goyang; the price of chili sauce in Gwangju was 1.1 times higher than that in Daegu; the price of toothpaste in Chuncheon was 1.2 times higher than that in Jeonju; the price of synthetic detergent in Jinju was 1.3 times higher than that in Chuncheon; the price of boxed tissue paper in Jinju was 1.3 times higher than that in Chuncheon; the price of diapers in Jeju was 1.1 times higher than that in Ulsan.
