[Seoul YMCA Petition Drum] Anti-site, unilateral slander of businesses or sound monitoring of businesses?

- Status and tasks of anti-sites for online consumer campaigns in connection with Seoul Appellate Court decision to close an anti-site

Social attention concentrates on online anti-sites in connection with Seoul High Court decision to close an anti-site on August 16. The court decision admitted possible defamation by the anti-site in a lawsuit which had been tried for over three years, by saying, “the social evaluation of other persons’ honor or credit is an important constitutional right that needs be protected.” On the other hand, however, many others maintain a strong opposing view that the potential driving force of such anti-sites, which are generated by netizens participating in online consumer campaigns, should not be excluded. Many netizens actively participated voluntarily in autonomous anti-sites criticizing businesses, which increased exponentially from 2000. Many have steadily pointed out problems of false or exaggerated information or libeling. Many have also demanded for high quality site operators and continuity of sites. Seoul YMCA held a public opinion forum about the status, functions and remaining tasks of anti-sites which have played an important role in online consumer campaigns in connection with the court decision as follows:
